CCJTDC 1996 and 2009 Baseline Data

I attended a meeting on Monday where useful information about juvenile justice in Illinois and Cook County was shared.  I particularly found this chart to be instructive:

Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (collected for the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative) – received 11/8/10 at Cook County Juvenile Court meeting.

1996 Baseline Data 2009 Baseline Data
Average Daily Population Total (ADP) 702 372
Average Daily Population of Youth of Color 660 365
Annual Admissions Total 9,260 5,665
Annual Admissions Youth of Color 8,586 5,513
Average Length of Stay 28.95 days 26.08 days
Average Length of Stay (Youth of Color) 29.42 days 26.27 days

The aggregate numbers have decreased across the board.  These numbers are still unacceptably high. In addition, disproportionate minority contact remains a problem.
